Malte Fisker presents a carefully curated selection of
non-figurative works from a number of younger and older contemporary artists.
Common for the works is a search for the basic principle of abstraction and the
independence of form. Here, the artwork is not seen as a representation, but as
an autonomous object that exists on its own terms. In Pure Abstraction we
encounter works that stand in their own presence. They do not point outwards
towards a world outside, but instead open up a space where forms, colours and
composition speak for themselves.

Exhibition text by Frode Steinicke

When I say pure abstraction, the meaning is that the form of
the abstraction is objectless. When I say that it is objectless, it means that
it does not reproduce anything from the visible world. It is a realization of
an inner image and idea. The form stands alone. It only imagines itself and
isonly about itself and its own form. It is purely physically, its own object
and thus expresses itself only as being pure form. This gives it a free space
where it does not need explanations and justifications. It is thus open to all
kinds of interpretations and leaves itself freely to the viewer's own
imagination. It offers the neutral pleasure of seeing

Exhibition text by Malte Fisker

The works in the exhibition are completely non-figurative
and do not symbolize or refer to anything other than themselves. All elements
operate on an equal footing with each other. The positive and negative forms
are exactly equally important and function 100% on their own terms. The works
do not refer to anything from our external reality but are an opening for
contemplation and our perception. Everything depends on the viewer's own
experience and presence in front of the works.

MARIE BIRKEDAL and GLORIA ZEINExhibition from 16.3 to 12.5, 2024Opening: Friday 15.3 19:00 Wednesday, 20.3 19:00 artist talk with Marie Birkedal and Gloria Zein moderated
by Rahel SchroheSunday 12.5, 17:00 Finissage
MARIE BIRKEDALI dilute my paints so much that the binder breaks down and only the pigment
remains, so that the color develops through evaporation and leaves behind
dust-like traces, making the paintings seem evoked rather than made. My
paintings embody time as a material just as much as paint and canvas. Each
layer must be completely dry before the next and there are long phases of
emptiness in which seemingly nothing happens, but really everything happens. To
me, the tactile haptic experience is just as valid a way of understanding the
world and being in it as words and language. I believe that there is a code of
communication and understanding that is visual and beyond language.

GLORIA ZEINMy hands do the work, but that is meaningless for the sculpture. Something
finds expression through them; I only make myself available. When the intellect
wants to control the result, banality lurks around the next corner and the
experience is destroyed.
The challenge is to think NOTHING and to be completely in the moment.Organisms store experiences in the strangest places.A life's journey shapes posture, gait, facial features - and the shineof the hair.

Variations in Suface TypeMay 5 - 26, 2023, Anne
Aarsland Gallery

The exhibition 'Variations in Surface Type focuses on paper as an artistic form
of expression. Over the last century, the definition of paperwork has expanded
its boundaries significantly. Since drawings were previously perceived as
preparations for other works of art or illustrative images, in recent times
they have transformed into an art form in its own right. Just like with
painting and sculpture, artists have pushed the boundaries of paper as a medium
and expanded the meaning of line and surface. The exhibition shows paper works
by 8 artists, and the works balance in the field of tension between figuration
/ abstraction, linear / painterly/constructive / expressive/ opaque /
transparent, flat / spatial and so on. Focusing on the importance of paper, the
artists at the exhibition use a variety of different materials methods and
materials, such as pencil, watercolor, oil, acrylic, gouache, serigraphy,
etching and lithography, expanding the definition of paper work and the
possibilities of the medium.

How do you become an artist? Is this a natural talent that unfolds? How do you
learn to create art? And when can you call yourself an artist - when do you
truly feel that you are one?
The concept behind Tilbageblik is to give the viewer an insight into the
engine room of art. Showing examples of all the roads – detours, byways and
highways – an artist typically has to walk; all the trials that are needed to
develop as an artist - and to become an artist in general. The exhibition shows
works by eight contemporary artists with very different practices. The term
"Retrospective exhibition" exhibition is usually a form of display
there guides the audience through one artist's (long) life's work. But here we
have a total of eight artists and can therefore more broadly show many of the
steps on the way an artist takes on the way to a mature and personal
expression.
We would like to show that a work of art is not just an idea that arose out of
nothing, but an expression of accumulated experience, testing of materials,
ideas and observation over a long period of time. Here the public can see works
from the early start with exercises and studies, to completed larger works that
characterize the artist today.
The exhibition has been developed in collaboration with three of the
participating artists: Jonna Pedersen, Simon Grimm and Jacob Hoff as well as
both the Art Building in Vrå – the Engelundsamlingen and the Janus Building in
Tistrup.

This exhibition gives the audience a unique insight into how far an artist
can move from start to finish to more complete expression. The public can look
forward to experiencing a diverse exhibition with painting, sculpture and
installation, from model studies to abstract expressions", Signe
Højmark, Kunstbygningen Vrå .
The exhibition is supported by the Statens Kunstfond and Sparekassen Danmark

Eight contemporary artists look back8 contemporary artists each show a mini-retrospective exhibition, which focuses on the long development that is part of being and becoming an artist The exhibition TILBAGEBLIK consists of eight mini-retrospective exhibitions with eight contemporary artists. How do you become an artist? Is this a natural talent that unfolds? How do you learn to create art? And when can you call yourself an artist - when do you truly feel that you are one? The idea of TILBAGEBLIK is to give the audience an insight into the engine room of art. Showing examples of all the roads – detours, byways and highways – an artist typically has to walk; all the trials that are needed to develop as an artist - and to become an artist in general. Each of the eight artists in the exhibition contributes distinctive works that cover different periods in their artistic work. Hereby, their artistic development is shown right from the first attempts, which perhaps, when the artist him/her/them-self looks back on them, may seem awkward, naive or pretentious, to the works that gave access to academies or censored exhibitions; then comes the landmark works that set a decisive development in motion, and finally the completely new works of art that show where the individual artist is today. Each artist has been interviewed. They were given the same five questions as e.g. "What made you start making art and why do you still do it?" and "Can you name three things that have had an impact on your artistic development?". These interviews are reproduced on boards in the exhibition. In this way, you as a visitor get answers to the questions you have often wanted to ask an artist yourself when you see her or his works. For the premiere, Bjørn Eriksen's musical work "Drive in Reverse Karma" the piece of music was composed specifically for the exhibition and expresses "Tilbageblik".
Anne Skole Overgaard, Bjarke Regn Svendsen, Bjørn Poulsen, Jacob Hoff, Jonna Pedersen, Karin Lorentzen, Marie Birkedal and Simon Grimm.
